Confluence is more than a performance; it is a harmonious meeting of art forms. Jazz, poetry, and dance converge in this extraordinary production to craft something deeply resonant and new. Drawing inspiration from the union of Guyana’s great rivers—the Essequibo, Potaro, and Mazaruni—this event celebrates the power of collaboration and the creative flow that defines Guyanese artistry.
The inception of Confluence took place in an unexpected yet fitting venue: the home of Sean Bhola. His informal jazz sessions, held every Wednesday, created a haven for artists of all kinds to share their craft. These sessions became the foundation of this production, featuring Guyana’s finest performers. Alongside Bhola, Kirk Noel, a passionate jazz enthusiast and renowned Sound Engineer, co-created this mesmerizing lineup of talent.
A Star-Studded Ensemble
At its core, Confluence is a showcase of Guyana’s remarkable talent:
Sean Bhola, the executive producer and celebrated Guyanese singer, leads the production with his unmatched vision and passion for the arts. Sharing the stage is Charmaine Blackman, Guyana’s most prolific female singer, whose voice has been a defining element of the country’s music. Adding an international touch is Omasan Kpogho, a UK citizen with Nigerian heritage and currently the Deputy British High Commissioner. Her inclusion enriches the global appeal of this event. The event also features Carlene Gill-Kerr, a poet and spoken word artist whose words resonate deeply. The X-Cellence Band, led by James Jacobs, provides a rich live jazz soundscape that weaves the entire production together. Movement comes alive with the dynamic dance duo Daniel and Shadacia Roberts, whose performances are as emotive as they are mesmerizing. Additionally, a new generation of talented artists will make their debut, adding fresh energy to this unforgettable experience.
