GuyExpo, now a cornerstone of Guyana’s trade and cultural identity, has come a long way since its beginnings in the 1980s. Initially centered on agriculture and manufacturing, the event reflected Guyana’s drive for self-sufficiency during the PNC administration. Early fairs, held at North Ruimveldt Multilateral and East Ruimveldt Secondary schools, were community-focused celebrations of local industry, drawing massive public participation.
With the arrival of the PPP administration in the 1990s, GuyExpo underwent a remarkable transformation. Officially branded in 1995, the event expanded to represent Guyana’s economic diversity, incorporating businesses across all sectors and attracting international investors. This shift aligned with the government’s vision of positioning Guyana as a destination for foreign investment and economic growth.
