VTG Mortar & Pestle 50s Mid Century Folk Art Hand Painted Wood Veggies & Vines

This is a delightful folk art decorated mortar and pestle set.

In vintage condition showing some signs of age and use but nothing that distracts from its charm and functionality!

The mortar and pestle each measure approximately 8.5". Mortar has a top opening diameter of 3".

This set is solid and weighs a hefty 3 lbs 14 oz. / 1.75 kg.

But the sweetest detail of this set would have to be the charming hand painted folk are scene on both pieces showing Onions, Tomatoes and Vines.
Made from a very dense hardwood. The two colors of the wood in the same block suggest to me that this may be made from tropical tigerwood.

Tigerwood is very dense and heavy and can have a Janka rating (which measures the hardness and durability of wood) of up to 2160 depending on the growing region. This makes it especially good for mortars and pestles. (This is 67% harder than red oak which only has a Janka rating of 1210.)
